The LSFB industry illustrated what it is capable of achieving when 9 LSFB projects were submitted for the prestigious annual Steel Awards. Unfortunately, there could be only one winner in this category.

23-09-2009 Light Steel Frame Building at Steel Awards! 2009

For Steel Awards 2009, we received 12 entries in the light steel frame building category. Submitted by developers, builders, owners or architects, these projects were studied by the judges, and site visits were made to all the shortlisted structures. After due deliberation, they decided on a winning project - see the attached article from Steel Construction. You should decide NOW to submit an entry, or two, for next years' Steel Awards, and enter it into your diary - entries normally close towards the end of April.

03-06-2009 Industry feedback meeting, Johannesburg, March 2009

SASFA held the first of its semi-annual industry feedback meetings for 2009 on 19 March in Johannesburg.The meeting was well attended - as has become the norm - and participants had an excellent networking session after the presentations. The meeting will be duplicated in Durban in early May 2009.

26-03-2009 Steel Awards 2008 - LSFB submissions

The SA Institute of Steel Construction annually organizes a competition to give recognition to steel projects which exemplifies the good application of structural steel. A special category was created for light steel frame buildings during 2008, and industry submitted 10 excellent projects. Read more ....

09-10-2008 : SASFA Industry Meeting 2 October 08

SASFA arranges two industry meetings per year, to provide feedback on progress with the industry development plans and the status of the industry. The meeting held on 2 October 2008 was attended by some 115 people. ABSA bank presented their approach to handling alternative building methods. Some of the presentations are included.

21-07-2008 : SASFA Brochure 2008

The light steel frame building industry has been established in South Africa, and it is attracting a lot of interest from all role players in the building industry. Of particular importance is the ‘green’ aspect of light steel frame building – lower embodied energy, lower operational energy and drastically reduced logistical costs contribute to making this building method a viable alternative to the outdated and inefficient masonry building. This article describes the manufacturing and building processes, highlights the advantages and provides insight into the activities of SASFA.
