The mission

Build an independent, technically competent and locally accountable laboratory whose scope is narrow enough to know the software in depth: the systems used by licensed South African bookmakers to accept, record, account for and settle wagers.

Why a specialist laboratory

Generalist gambling laboratories test many products across many jurisdictions. SASFA’s intended advantage is concentration: one national standards family, one lawful online category and test methods developed around the realities of bookmaker software and its release cycle.

That focus does not lower the threshold. It makes the threshold more visible. SASFA must meet the same requirements for technical competence, impartiality, accreditation, licensing and regulatory acceptance as any other testing agent.

What SASFA is not

• Not a regulator, provincial licensing authority or enforcement body.
• Not SABS, SANAS or NRCS, and not endorsed by any of them merely because engagement occurs.
• Not currently an accredited laboratory or licensed national testing agent.
• Not a body that can license a bookmaker or authorise software deployment.
• Not a badge programme that approves a company without identifying the exact product and build.

The public-interest measure

Technical compliance ultimately matters because real money, records and decisions pass through the software. The player must receive the odds accepted, the settlement due, the balance recorded and the history required to challenge an error. That remains the practical measure behind the laboratory’s work.
