The Coalition

Different perspectives. One objective.

Each group in this coalition sees a different part of the same system. Bringing them into one room is what allows a policy discussion to move past the choice between prohibition and unrestricted commercialisation.

Technology

Software developers, game developers, cryptographers, cybersecurity specialists and verification technology.

Players

People who actually use these products and understand the consumer experience from the inside.

Civil society

NGOs, researchers, educators and organisations dealing with gambling-related harm.

Industry

Operators, suppliers and technology companies working in the South African market.

Policy

People with experience in regulation, public policy and governance.

What membership means

Participation in the coalition is participation in a discussion. It is explicitly not certification, endorsement or approval, and it will never be displayed as such by SASFA or permitted to be displayed that way by a member.

Members and partner organisations will be listed here only with their explicit written consent, and the listing will distinguish clearly between members, partners, advisors and observers.

On government participation. No government department, regulator or provincial licensing authority endorses SASFA. Where officials or regulators take part in discussions, they do so as participants in a policy conversation. SASFA will not describe that participation as endorsement, and will not list a public body as a member without documented permission.

How the work happens

  • Working groups drafting the individual standards
  • Open comment periods on every draft, with the comments published
  • Research commissioned or collated on player understanding and behaviour
  • Plain-language explanation of regulatory developments as they happen

Taking part

SASFA is actively looking for people who build gambling technology, study gambling behaviour, work in player support, or have regulatory and policy experience. Technical contributors are particularly welcome on the fairness and software-integrity standards, where the drafting needs people who have actually shipped this kind of system.
